CONTEXT AND PARTNERS

During the 4th edition of Ragnarock Nordic Festival, the cultural association Ragnarock, in collaboration with Regione Lombardia, the Municipality of Milan and the Milan Office of the European Commission, will organize the CO2 Green Drive, a project about environmental awareness, created by the danish artist Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen in collaboration with the Danish Cultural Institute. The event will be organized around a public parade of environmentally friendly vehicles (electrical, hybrid, with hydrogen).

The event is part of the program of the 2010 edition of UNESCO’s week of education for sustainable development (November 8-14), which is dedicated to mobility.

CONCEPT AND OBJECTIVES

The basic concept of the event is to “tag” a city with an enormous “CO2” sign using environmentally friendly vehicles. The CO2 Green Drive wants to increase public awareness regarding current environmental challenges and promote the use of these vehicles as much as possible.

MILAN AND CO2 GREEN DRIVE - DETAILS OF THE EVENT

2.00 PM - Meeting of environmentally vehicles, Piazza Leonardo da Vinci

2.30 PM - CO2 Driving Academy (lesson about safe and sustainable driving)

3.30 PM - Start of the marathon

5.30 PM - Return to Piazza Leonardo da Vinci

6.00 PM - End of the event

At 2 pm, we’ll host an exhibition of electric and hybrid vehicles in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci (Milan); some of them can be tested. Among them there will be the car of “Back to the Future”, the electrical version of De Lorean, Tesla, the 100% electrical sportive car and Apollo, the prototype of Milan Politecnico that goes with solar energy. The event will be introduced by Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen, creator of the CO2 Green Drive, and a representative of A2A, who will present the E-Moving project.
Afterwards, inside the stand area, there will be the CO2 Driving Academy: two lessons about “safe and sustainable driving”, held by Time2go.

At 3.30 pm, a public marathon of ecological vehicles will kick off, featuring cars, bicycles and scooters, some of which equipped with GPS devices. Exploiting the satellite technology, they will virtually ‘tag’ the ‘CO2’ writing on Milan’s map as they follow the marathon’s route through the city. The performance will be shown live on a screen in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci and on Ragnarock’s website.
There will be a stop in Largo Richini, where will be shown the working of the rechargeable column A2A, already in function.

CO2 GREEN DRIVE: AN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT

The CO2 Green Drive has previously been produced in Riga (Latvia), Copenhagen, Roskilde (Denmark) and Vilnius on the 23th October 2010. In 2011, the CO2 E-Race Organization is planning to produce several versions of the project around the world, in countries such as Italy, Denmark, South America and the United States. All activities will be executed in collaboration with local public offices and private partners.
